Publish your Article Open Access in a SAGE Subscription Journal with SAGE Choice
The SAGE Choice program offers authors the option to make their primary research articles freely available upon publication in most subscription-based SAGE Journals. It also enables authors to comply with funding body requirements, where publishing research papers open access is a stipulation of funding, while still publishing their article in the subscription journal of their choice.
The standard article processing charge (APC) for SAGE Choice is 3,000 USD/1,600 GBP in the Science, Technology and Medical fields, and 1,500 USD/800 GBP in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The fee excludes any other potential author fees levied by some journals (such as color charges) as well as taxes where applicable.
Funding or discounted fees may be available through your institution or library and so we encourage you to check with your librarian or university contact.
Under this program, SAGE will post to PubMed Central (PMC) or its international equivalents, such as Europe PMC or PMCI, on behalf of authors where their funder requires it. All other SAGE policies regarding open access archiving remain unchanged.
SAGE Choice is only available to authors after their manuscripts have been accepted for publication. This is in order to prevent any potential conflicts of interest, and to ensure that authors' choice and/or funder requirements have no influence on the editorial peer review and decision-making process.
If your article has been accepted for publication in a subscription journal published by SAGE and you wish to publish under the SAGE Choice option, please email the journal’s Production Editor as soon as possible.

Revenue from article processing charges currently represents less than 0.25% of SAGE’s journal subscription income.
We are working on a model to ensure fairness for the 2015 subscription year which we will be discussing with our society publishing partners prior to implementation.
