MORE THAN 1000 SAGE EBOOKS NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH AGGREGATORS
Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore and Washington DC (15 October 2009) —SAGE has passed a significant milestone this month with more than 1000 titles now available with ebook aggregators.
The academic and professional publisher currently offers library sales via EBL (Ebooks Library); MyiLibrary; NetLibrary; ebrary; and Dawsonera. They also sell ebooks directly to consumers via eBooks.com, with links from the SAGE site on each title available as an ebook.
The titles cover SAGE’s full range of subject areas, from business and management, sociology, media and communications, to criminology, counselling, psychology, education and research methods. They range across the broad spectrum of the SAGE publishing programme and incorporate both frontlist and backlist titles. Increasingly, SAGE will be publishing titles simultaneously in print and electronic formats.
“SAGE’s ebook programme has expanded rapidly,” said Clive Parry, Sales and Marketing Director, SAGE. “We have increased our offerings with ebook aggregators from approximately 250 in 2008 to more than 1000 this year.”
The growth of the titles available reflects signs of increasing uptake of ebook content across higher education.
“Over the last 12 months we have seen increasing purchases of ebooks by individual libraries as well as interest in purchases from library consortia. Our experiments in selling e-textbooks to students are also seeing more uptake this year, although it is still early days for the student market,” said Parry. “It is a key part of our ongoing business strategy to support these burgeoning markets with relevant and high quality content through our key partners such as eBooks.com/EBL.”
“There is increasing demand from the student market for ebook content, and it is encouraging to see how responsive SAGE has been to this,” said Suzanne Cole, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Ebooks Corporation. “SAGE’s clear commitment to this emergent space, reflected by the substantial and rapid growth of their ebook catalogue in the last year, shows an astute understanding of the changing landscape in the scholarly and academic field.”
