Journal of Social Work is now indexed by the Social Science Citation Index, Journal Citation Report-Social Science edition, and Current Contents Connect-Social & Behavioural Sciences edition. Coverage started with v.8(1) 2008.

The Journal of Social Work is a forum for the publication, dissemination and debate of key ideas and research in social work. The journal aims to advance theoretical understanding, shape policy, and inform practice, and welcomes submissions from all areas of social work.

In addition to longer articles, the Journal of Social Work publishes occasional shorter 'think pieces': reports of research in progress, comments on previously published articles, and analyses of current and topical practice, policy and theory.

"Since its inception in 2001 the Journal of Social Work has become an indispensable resource for both social work academics and practitioners. The articles it has published over the years are of a high academic standard and, having established its reputation as one of the leading journals in the field, there is no doubt that it will continue to serve as a focus for critical debates about issues facing social workers everywhere. It deserves to be widely consulted." James Midgley, University of California at Berkeley

"The requirement for social care policy and practice to be based on evidence has never been greater or more necessary. This journal presents an invaluable opportunity for a broad based debate on the evidence and its implications for policy and practice." David Behan, Director of Social Services, Greenwich Council, UK

"This journal is a welcome addition to the field. It has an international editorial board which should enrich the variety of manuscripts included." Eileen Gambrill, University of California at Berkeley

"The Journal of Social Work is a welcome addition to the small number of quality journals that address the general concerns of social work. The articles it has published so far have, in fact, addressed a range of important issues of global concern." William J. Reid, The University at Albany, State University of New York
