“Conceptualization and Measurement of Organizational Readiness for Change: A Review of the Literature in Health Services Research and Other Fields”
Bryan J. Weiner, Halle Amick, and Shoou-Yih Lee
This innovative review paper, which was published in August 2008, assessed a critical precursor to successful organizational change implementation, namely developing organizational readiness for change. The paper examined how organizational readiness for change was defined and measured in prior research, and it synthesized findings on the influence of these measures from 106 peer-reviewed articles in health care and other fields. In addition to addressing conceptual and methodological issues, it generated practical knowledge for health care management practice.

For over 60 years,
Medical Care Research and Review (formerly Medical Care Review) has been a pioneering force in the area of health services research. During that time, the journal
evolved from monthly abstracts to a well-respected journal carrying critical reviews of literature on organizational structure, economics, and the financing of health and medical care systems. Today, the journal's focus has expanded to reflect the growth of the field and the increasing importance of health services research -- while still maintaining the high standards that have kept
Medical Care Research and Review at the forefront of health care research for over half a century.
An Even More Valuable Resource For Researchers, Policy Makers, And Health Care Administrators
Under its former title, the journal was a respected source of scholarly review articles that analyzed, critiqued and synthesized current literature and research in health care services. The journal's extended scope now includes original empirical and theoretical research and trends as well as the in-depth review articles for which the journal is known. Each issue now includes empirical research studies that provide policy makers with current information to make informed policy decisions, as well as to identify health care trends through the analysis of previously unpublished data.
Covering Current Issues in Health Care
Medical Care Research and Review covers timely aspects of health care such as:
- Economic issues in financing health care
- Impact of competition and regulation
- Managed care plans
- Organizational structure and behavior
- Patient/physician behavior
- Physician/hospital relationships and organizational strategies
- Political issues in health care
- Pharmaceutical drug lags in the US compared to Europe
- HIV/AIDS in rural areas
- Patients' expectations about medical care.
The journal occasionally complements its broad coverage with supplements on a particular topic. The supplement Financial Incentives was published in the September 2004 issue.
"Thanks to their streamlined review process, Medical Care Research and Review publishes critical research on a much faster track than other journals, making this journal a favorite with authors and readers alike!"
