SAGE Journals
SAGE Publications launched its online journal delivery platform, SAGE Journals, on HighWire Press in 2004. SAGE Journals hosts SAGE’s prestigious and highly cited journals and represents one of the largest lists in the social sciences as well as an extensive STM offering. The platform allows subscribing institutions to access individual SAGE journal titles, their related backfiles, and the SAGE Full-Text Collections and provides users with dramatically enhanced features and functionality, including flexible searching and browsing capabilities, customizable alerting services, and advanced toll-free inter-journal reference linking. It includes all the tools associated with HighWire Press and the high quality recognized with SAGE.

SAGE offers institutional subscribers five subscription options, outlined below. This includes two options introduced last year—Combined Plus Backfile and E-Access Plus Backfile, which provide online access to the deep backfile from volume 1, issue 1 where available.
Institutional Subscription Options
- Combined: electronic access (which provides site-wide online access to all content in the volume) and a print copy of each issue included in the volume for that title. Electronic access is provided to journal backfile back to 1999 while subscription is maintained.
- Combined Plus Backfile: electronic access (which provides site-wide online access to all content in the volume) and a print copy of each issue included in the volume for that title. Electronic access is provided to journal backfile back to volume 1, issue 1 while subscription is maintained.
- E-Access: electronic access (which provides site-wide online access to all content in the volume) is offered at a 10% discount off the Combined rate and does not include print copies. Electronic access is provided to journal backfile back to 1999 while subscription is maintained.
- E-Access Plus Backfile: electronic access (which provides site-wide online access to all content in the volume) is offered at a small increase to the E-Access rate and does not include print copies. Electronic access is provided to journal backfile back to volume 1, issue 1 while subscription is maintained.
- Print-Only: print only at 2% off the Combined rate. (Includes electronic access to content in the current and previous year.)
Note: If subscription is cancelled, online access will continue to be available only for the years to which the customer subscribed. This does not apply to online access for the Print-Only option which is only available for the duration of the subscription.
NEW THIS YEAR! Institutions subscribing at the Print-Only rate will receive free electronic access to the issues within their current order and for the previous 12 months. For example, for orders placed for 2008 issues, access will be available to content in 2007 and 2008. When renewed for 2009, access will be available to 2008 and 2009 but no longer to 2007. Please note there is no charge for this electronic access and as a result there is no change in how VAT is calculated for print only customers.
Note: Online access for a Print-only subscription is only available for the duration of the subscription.
Backfile Purchase
Deep backfile of individual titles is available for lease or purchase. Deep backfile is defined as the content of a journal from issue 1, volume 1, through the last issue of 1998 (content from January 1999 to the present is included in the current subscription). An annual technology fee of $25 or £15 per journal will additionally be charged up to a maximum of $700 or £450 (per institution per year). To lease or purchase access to the complete backfile of SAGE journals (300+ titles), please email backfilesales@sagepub.com for a quotation.
