Praise for previous editions:

'He is consciously reflective of day-to-day classroom experiences and this 'in touch with' dimension in his writings gives him credibility and encourages his readers to develop their own practice' - Mike O'Connor, The Psychology of Education Review, Vol. 27, No. 2, pp.44-45

'He presents with vivid authenticity - his stories are always a potent cocktail of pain and humour - tales of classroom and school challenge with which any practicing teacher immediately identifies' - Professor Sir Tim Brighouse, Times Educational Supplement

'Bill Rogers has inspired a generation of teachers through his books and lectures. He has the gift of credibility, talking to real teachers about real classrooms, and never patronising us' - Geoff Barton, Times Educational Supplement

This is a really useful book for anyone who is looking to work with children and young people. It doesn't have to be just in a classroom setting as many of the ideas given can be adapted to other settings. A very good easy to read book.

This book will supplement the book by Sue Roffey, 'The New Teachers' Guide to Behaviour', which I have added to our reading list. It deals with a number of key issues of behaviour that teachers face everyday, which our students will no doubt come across at some point, in their careers.

This book will contribute to the core reading for our professional studies module which runs concurrently with school experience. The book offers practical support with regards to effective behaviour management and is accessible for the range of students' experiences with such strategies. The book is very readable and its structure and style enable the reader to 'dip in' when required.

As the title says it, it is a practical book which offers a positive insight into creating a purposeful atmosphere for learning emerging from positive behaviour. This book is essential for trainee teachers in order to apply the principles discussed to create a good environment in the classroom.

This book is perfect for our professional studies modules as it offers practical support, underpinned by relevant theory, as to how to develop those essential classroom relationships. It is felt that our students will appreciate the opportunities to discuss the issues raised and reflect on the suggested strategies, linking these to their own expereinces.

As with the previous edition, this book not only offers student teachers a range of strategies and approaches for effective behaviour management, it does so in a practical way which refelct the day to day experiences in the classroom. Students and teachers are encouraged to focus on the behaviour, not the child and take a postive and proactive approach to ensuring that children are taught appropriate learning and social behaviour.

I found this book really informative and full of useful tips, personal experiences and case studies. I was gripped once I starting reading it. It wasn't full of jargon and was easy to read and understand. There are good sources of reference. Although I am teaching FE/Lifelong Learning staff, this book can be relevant to a lot of their situations. It would be great if a future edition included post 16 issues and situations.
